The Teaching and Learning Foundation serves the educational community addressing the problem of the unequal distribution of highly-effective teachers - without moving them around. The Teaching and Learning Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization (EIN 45-0544770) dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of all subjects at all grade levels. The Foundation believes that education is the key to raising the prospects for all and increasing understanding among us. The Foundation supports:
The first program supported by the Foundation is a subject-specific certification program for K-12 teachers being developed by Teaching Point (http://www.teaching-point.net) for both public and private schools. Through donations and grants to the Foundation, Teaching Point will develop a series of online continuing education (CEU) and/or graduate level courses (non-program related) that will 1) enable in-service teachers to become better prepared for new assignments, 2) count toward state recertification requirements and 3) highly-qualify them in unavoidable out-of-field assignments. University partners will host the for-credit courses providing a path to highly-qualify teachers by subject. Teaching Point is developing a patented knowledge base for teaching and learning and has already published over 120 subject-specific instructional support materials. The course materials compliment the online element of this patent-pending, practical, economical, professional development program. Subject-specifc teacher manuals may be delivered in either eBook form, or printed form with DVD. Each includes standard alignments, syllabus, pacing guide, detailed daily lesson plans, editable assessments, editable class notes (PowerPoint's), complete student activity book or lab manual along with mentoring teacher support by email. Teaching Point serves schools in all 50 states and over 75 countries with regular, honors, AP(TM) and International Baccalaureate versions of the instructional materials. The following is the Abstract of the Teaching Point Patent No. US 8,116,674 B2 (see page 18 for description): A system and method for professional development for teachers which includes a structured framework for creating and providing online courses, qualification testing, instructional material, and mentoring teacher access, all subject specific to help teachers gain competency in their individualized teaching assignments and by extension help in the recruitment, development and retention of teachers leading to improved student achievement.
